With an increased level of downtime, the developers of Unity have had an increased amount of available time to spend on product development. The developers of Unity, or developer, I should say, is only Colin. But, I digress.
In this unexpected abundance of time, a new game has been prototyped - Unity: A New World. The game takes place in the early days of Colonial America. Explorers venture from the Old World, attempting to utilize this newly found resource - America. Wars will start; colonists and natives will clash. There will be blood.
A couple of new game mechanics have been added into this game from the other previous Unity games. For one, all of the European powers, the "colonizers," start with an explorer on a ship rather than on the land in a city (like how all of the already created Unity games begin).
This new dynamic allows for the colonizing powers to choose their location of initial colonization and can provide for more strategic game play. The New World powers do have advantages of their own - they start with more resources and a higher population.
Another, more complex dynamic to the game is the technology aspect thrown into the game. The Native and European civilizations begin the game with different technological advancements. In order to create or find new technology, a player must either buy a technology card and take a chance of getting a new technology, trade technologies with another player, or conquer another player (thereby taking all technology from the losing civilization.
Certain technologies are only applicable in certain spots on the map. These technologies have to do with making the most of the resources from the land. The Natives begin the game with these technologies.
In essence, however, the game remains simple at its core - unification of the New World!
